Approximately 5% of all Australians experience anxiety that at times, is severe enough to affect their day to day activities. People with anxiety disorders experience an exaggeration of 'normal' thoughts and feelings. These feelings and actions become out of control and interfere with everyday life. There are many different types of anxiety disorders.

SYMPTOMS

Symptoms May Include:

  • constant worry
  • difficulty concentrating
  • difficulty making decisions
  • poor sleep
  • tension, heart palpitations and sweating
  • difficulty breathing
  • extreme anxiousness

    What Are The Main Types of Anxiety Disorders?

    1. Generalised anxiety disorder - an overall feeling of anxiety
    2. Simple Phobia - an intense fear about a particular object or situation
    3. Social phobia - an intense fear of social situations
    4. Obsessive Compulsive Disorder - constant unwanted thoughts often resulting in the performance of elaborate rituals (approximately 2% of the population are affected by Obsessive Compulsive Disorder).
    5. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder - continue to feel terror experienced long after a major trauma
    6. Panic disorder - extreme panic feelings.-feelings of extreme panic.
